Last Week of March

Another week, another date night spread. I included a deconstructed California roll with crispy rice on this one.

I’ve been leaving eggs to sit a couple days in this nest the ducks made, now that it’s not too cold at night so they wont freeze. Hoping to convince a lady to be broody. This morning the eggs were warm when I was clearing out the nest, like somebody had been sitting there at night, but when I opened the door in the morning they all ran out as normal. Maybe a good sign?

The old barn looks particularly spooky in this foggy spring weather we get in the mountains.

Baking adventures over the weekend: cinnamon rolls and egg bagels. Since we’re getting 4 duck eggs a day I feel the need to use them up, though I did drop off 20 at my parent’s house for my dad.

The last month or so my wife and I have been going back-and-forth about whether this cottage is our forever cottage. I always thought this was a temporary stop over for 3 to 5 years before we found something a bit more suited for a family. But my wife is concerned that we won’t be able to find something better that’s in our budget that’s still within the radius of her job commute. The sticking point is whether or not we want to continue on with some projects or just finish up what we need to do to make the house sellable and safe. I think my ideal is that we find a good site that suits our needs and build our own cottage. I don’t think I will be satisfied staying here forever because there’s some major issues that can’t be resolved without knocking down this house and starting again. Since the house is 250 years old our ability to expand it to fit a family is very limited. Time will tell. I want to focus on becoming debt free before I make any more major financial decisions.
