About

This is Diary of a Bog Witch.

I started this blog because I miss the internet when people kept diaries in public. When blogs were not content strategies or personal brands, just places to put things you were learning so you could remember them later. And sometimes so other people could find them and think, oh. me too.

I live a slow, practical life. I grow food when I can. I preserve what I can. I try things. Some work. Some rot. I write it down anyway.

The “bog witch” part is only partly a joke. Every town has a stretch of woods people warn outsiders not to wander into. Bad footing. Strange sounds. Paths that don’t quite lead back where you expect. That’s where I tend to feel most at home, metaphorically and otherwise.

Bogs are slow, overlooked places. They look messy from the outside, but they’re full of systems quietly doing their job. Things break down there and become useful again. That feels like a good metaphor for how I live and how I learn.

The “witch” part isn’t aesthetic. It just means paying attention. Knowing when to plant, when to wait, when to rest. Keeping notes. Making do. Trusting accumulated experience more than trends. I am not a beautiful forest nymph. I’m a grumpy hag getting things done. I take care of the land and the creatures that depend on it. I keep systems running. I mind my business. I scare people when necessary. I am deeply uninterested in being pleasant, marketable, or easily consumed.

This blog is one way I opt out of things that feel broken: overconsumption, endless optimization, the expectation to perform productivity, femininity, or likability for an audience. I’m more interested in building a small, durable life and an intimate community that knows how to take care of itself.

Here you’ll find:

  • pantry notes, inventories, and food preservation experiments
  • gardening, planting, and seasonal maintenance
  • domestic systems that are always in progress
  • slow living, anti-consumption, and opting out where possible
  • observations about care, labor, limits, and survival
  • things that worked, and things that very much did not

This is not a guide or a manifesto. I am not an expert. I am documenting a practice.

Posts may be short or long. Some weeks there will be many. Some weeks there will be none. Sometimes I disappear into the woods for a while. That’s part of the deal.

If you’re coming here from my cottage projects, my videos, or just because you followed a link and ended up in the woods, you’re welcome.

If you are here because you are tired of optimization, or because you like reading how other people actually live, you are welcome to stay.

If you are looking for perfection, productivity hacks, or answers that work for everyone, this may not be the place.

I write this mostly so I can remember later.
That’s all this is.
