One time I calculated the number of acres of potatoes I would have to grow to provide the amount of potatoes my wife and I consume in a year. It was more space than we own, even if we knocked down the cottage, cut down the forest and only grew potatoes. Still, I want to try to grow some potatoes because I think its fun!
Before you think my wife and I are addicted to potatoes – my wife is GF and I don’t love eating pasta/ bread products so we mostly consume rice and potatoes as our grain. I can’t grow rice where I live (at least not without some major landscaping!) PLUS potatoes are cheap and long lasting.
I already planted about 15 lbs of potatoes in the ground. I just ordered about 15 more lbs that I’m going to plant in grow bags. Long live the potato!
